Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is an outpatient, physician-referred exercise program designed for individuals with diagnosed chronic breathing problems. By attending regular exercise sessions, patients are able to improve their well-being and overall quality of life.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program at WCH is designed to help those who are increasingly limited in everyday activities due to chronic bronchitis, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, asthma, environmental, occupational lung disease and post-operative lung surgery.

Phase II Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Phase II Pulmonary Rehabilitation requires a physician’s order with a diagnosis that meets medical necessity requirements. Patients will have a pulmonary function test and physical fitness evaluation before beginning the program.  Patients will attend supervised one-hour classes 2-3 times per week for 12 weeks.  Medicare and commercial insurances will cover the cost of Phase II Pulmonary Rehab with certain diagnoses.

Phase III Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Phase III Pulmonary Rehabilitation is for patients who have completed the phase II program or have a chronic breathing condition. Patients will continue to attend supervised one-hour classes two times per week.  Phase III Pulmonary Rehab is a self-pay program and is not covered by Medicare or most insurance companies.

Both phases of Pulmonary Rehab require an order from your physician.
