More than 10 billion laboratory tests are performed each year in the United States. This testing provides vital information to physicians for disease diagnosis and monitoring patient’s progress. Lab testing occurs behind the scenes, yet plays a vital role in helping physicians diagnose disease and monitor patient’s progress. Quality results and timely availability of information to physicians and patients drive our laboratory operations. Full clinical and pathology services for the analysis of blood, urine and other specimens are available.

We offer on-site testing in the areas of blood bank, blood gas testing, chemistry and immunochemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, specimen collection and processing, result reporting and referral to a reference lab as required.

Pathology and cytology are provided through SEMC Pathology of Highland Illinois, which provides pathology coverage for many area hospitals. Lab testing is performed by registered technologists and technicians under the direction of board certified pathologists. Washington County Hospital Laboratory is fully certified by Joint Commission.

Services are available to patients of all ages. Lab testing is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all inpatient and emergency patients.

Outpatient hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays mornings, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Most on-site testing is available on a STAT basis. Results are faxed directly to the physician when completed. In addition to providing specific testing on physicians’ orders, the Laboratory also participates in annual Health Fair testing events. The Laboratory staff also collect DOT and non-DOT drug tests and perform alcohol testing for a variety of area employers

No appointment is necessary, although a physicians order is required. For more information, please call the Laboratory at (618) 327-2264.
